Permission Granted for EVA Air to Operate Charter Flights to Shanghai

EVA Air has obtained approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) to operate charter flights to Shanghai during Chinese New Year.  Seats on the flights will be sold one-way only - coming from and returning to Shanghai.

The 'ferry' flights will depart on January 29, 2003 and return on February 9, 2003. The charter will be operated using a B747-400 aircraft with a capacity of up to 386 passengers. Each flight will make a brief stop at Macau airport en route.

The charter service is designed to cater for Taiwanese businessmen based in Shanghai, returning home for the Chinese New Year holiday.

The first 'ferry' flight will depart Taipei's CKS airport at 6.15 am, arriving in Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 10.30 am. This will provide the first leg of the charter departing Shanghai at 12.30 pm, arriving back at CKS airport at 4.45 pm. The second flight, at the end of the Chinese New Year holiday, will depart Taiwan at 4.00 pm arriving in Shanghai at 8.15 pm. Estimated flight-time will be 4 hours and 15 minutes.

For the purposes of this special service, EVA Air has appointed China Eastern Airlines as its ground handling agents. Straight Travel Agent will be handling ticket sales.
