EVA to Launch Service to 5th Gateway in Japan

EVA Air is introducing flights between Taipei and Sendai on 1 Sept., 2004 with 2 flights a week.  Sendai will be the Taiwan-based carrier's fifth gateway in Japan and will complement current services to Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka and Sapporo.  Travelers can book flights now by contacting one of EVA's ticket offices, or through a travel agent.

EVA will use a Boeing B767-200 on the route, configured for 12 passengers in Business Class and 200 in Economy Class.  Flight time one-way for the new direct, nonstop service on  Wednesday and Sunday is 3.5 hours.

EVA flight BR118 will depart Taipei at 10:20a.m. (10:20) and arrive Sendai at 2:40 p.m. (14:40).  Return flight BR117 will depart Sendai at 4:40 p.m. (16:40) and arrive back in Taipei at 07:20 p.m. (19:20).

"The breathtaking scenery, gourmet foods and well-known hot spring have established Sendai as one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Japan," said K.W. Nieh, Senior Vice President, EVA Air.  "The spring is one of the top three in Japan, and the leisure market for this kind of vacation spot within Asia is growing fast."

EVA is working with travel agents to design special tour packages that feature Sendai as a destination and highlight its dining and hot spring attractions.  Future EVA trip products will be diversified, combining Sendai with Tokyo or another of the airline's gateways in Japan.  The carrier is also creating one of its flexible Evergreen Holidays for individual Sendai-bound passengers that can be used for quick, easy getaways or combined with the airline's similar packages to include other destinations.

On its summer schedule, EVA is flying three round-trips a day between Taipei and Tokyo, one a day to and from Osaka and Fukuoka, and three per week to Sapporo.  In addition, the airline is offering chartered services to selected tourist destinations throughout Japan.

Sendai is due north of Tokyo along the Pacific Coast and also the largest city in northeastern Honshu of Japan. With Sendai, EVA is now serving a global network of 44 destinations on four continents and Oceania, including one of the industry's best-developed gateway systems within Asia.
