EVA Air Launches New Osaka Freighter Service

EVA Air launched a new weekly Taipei-Osaka cargo service on March 4, 2004. Served by a B747-400 freighter on Thursdays, the new flight will provide a combined weekly cargo capacity of 170 tons, including cargo carried on passenger services.

" Business ties between Taiwan and Japan have recently become much stronger. Osaka is the second biggest cargo hub in Japan. EVA's Osaka cargo service is its first freighter service to Japan and signifies a more aggressive approach to the development of our Northeast Asian air cargo business." said Mr. K W Nieh, senior vice president of EVA Air.

" Our goal for the Taipei - Osaka cargo route is to provide more service. We will be seeking a co-operation agreement with Air Nippon to increase future frequency via a co-share." Nieh continued.

Cargo transported between Taipei and Osaka mainly comprises Bio-technical products, electronic spare parts, machinery, auto spare parts and fresh goods. EVA's B747-400 freighter is beneficial for transporting large machinery which can be loaded through the nose door.

The new service provides convenient shipping times departing Taipei at 7.00 pm each Thursday, ensuring same-day delivery in Osaka and no need for overnight warehouse storage in Taipei.

EVA Air introduced its first freighter service in 1995. The carrier now provides 12 dedicated cargo destinations and 33 combined cargo-passenger destinations in Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East. In August 2003, EVA Air established a new European cargo centre in Brussels and now offers more convenient and prompt services for shippers worldwide.
